In the past, members of JBLHO taught weekly medical Spanish courses. This year we are happy to announce that in partnership with the Office of Diversity and Minority Affairs, professional instructors have been hired to conduct Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Medical Spanish courses. The classes meet on Wednesday evenings, at no cost to the students. Approximately 150 students are currently registered for Medical Spanish.

Who We Are

The Jefferson Boricua Latino Health Organization is a recognized chapter of the National Boricua Latino Health Organization (NBLHO). While JBLHO has been in existence for a number of years, it is only this year that our chapter has been resurrected from being merely "operational" to an active one driven by an excited group of students, passionate about:

  • Education about Latino health issues
  • Advocating for increased Latino representation in health related areas
  • Promoting awareness about social, political, and economic issues related to Latino health

Annual Conference

This year we were the proud sponsors of the 34th Annual National Boricua Latino Health Organization Conference, held April 8th at Jefferson Medical College. There were workshops for high school students, undergraduates, and medical students. Keynote speaker Dr. Aida Giachello, of the Midwest Latino Health Research, Training and Policy Center at the University of Illinois, spoke about "Advocating for Optimal Health Care in the Latino Communities." According to Time Magazine, Dr. Giachello is "one of the Top 25 most influential Hispanics in America."
